Right off from the start you can see that we only recommend one edge tool in self care sets for athletes or others with myofascial syndromes. When you are shopping the internet for IASTM sets you will often find 5, 6, and 7 piece sets marketed to consumers. The fact is, more of the same is not better. More "shapes" with the same profile geometry does not help you in any way, especially if they are difficult to hold in the hand.
The Basic 3-in-1 gives you concavity, convexity, and a "prow" for more focused work. These basic geometries make up all other possible profiles, so our thought was to put them into one easy to hold IASTM tool for self-care. The red grip feature not only makes the tool easy to hold (vs pinching a sharp metal edge) but keeps oils on the treatment end of the tool. It takes about 10 seconds to realize that an oiled up metal IASTM tool is nearly impossible to hold on to without a grip or integral profile ergonomics.
You will also see in the 3-in-1 sets the Trigger Point Tool and our Original MyoBar. These instruments expand your tissue access and depth of penetration over edge tools alone. How is that? The Ball-End of the Trigger Point Tool can be applied "between" parallel layers of muscles/fascia and can work into areas that an edge tool won't fit. It is also nice to have to work on your body, even through work-out cloths (it does not snag cloth fibers or bunch them up like the edge tools do).
The Original MyoBar is a better bar for self care because it does not require angling (really hard to do behind your back or leg) and its wider DFB (Deep Fascia Barrel) edge can work superficial and lower layers in the same stroke. Remember that it is "pressure" that releases the fascia, activates blood flow, drains lymph, and stimulates the healing fibroblast cells. Big & sharp bars are hard to maneuver and the sharp edge limits how deep you can press without pain and/or bruising.
If you are an athlete or needing to treat the hip, back, or lower extremity you are going to want the Original Bar. For headaches, and upper extremity conditions you will have full treatment capability with the
3-in-1 Trigger Point combo. Finally, if you are wanting to also treat other people in addition to yourself and would like "scaled" (S) small, (M) medium, & (L) large instruments, please look at the R+ Series.
We do not normally recommend G+ or Healing Edge Styles for self care because the added features are difficult to use when having to apply to your own anatomy. Click
